Warm-up, stretch
40 min LSD (Long Slow Distance)
Cool down, stretch
I don't even remember the last time I ran that long! It was most likely sometime last summer when I was training for my wedding. Yes, training for my wedding. Because my wedding required extreme endurance for all the dancing we did at our reception. Anyway, tonight's run was awesome, along country backroads in the evening sunset. And since I had mapped it out before I left, all I had to do was run. I didn't realize just how freeing that would be, but it was.
I did run yesterday (a 20 min easy run), and I also attended my Weight Watchers meeting. Weighed in and lost just 0.4 lb. Now, I'm not going to lie and tell you that the numbers on the scale don't matter to me as much as how I'm feeling. They do. Anyone who has tried to lose weight will tell you that watching the numbers getting smaller and smaller is an extremely gratifying thing. But after three previous g0-rounds with this whole thing (and that's a whole OTHER post) I know that there other things to gauge my weight loss by. This was one of those weeks. This week my clothes were looser. I can finally layer a couple of Old Navy tank tops and feel pretty dang cute. I'm running again and loving it. Jason can tell I've lost weight and he tells me often, in sweet encouraging ways. More importantly, I can tell I've lost weight and I feel so good about how I'm treating myself. So those are things that I log this week, not the current numbers on the scale.
Ooh, and bonus treat? Debbie sent me an early birthday present (after conspiring with my hubby) and sent me the Nike + Ipod sensor and receiver. This thing will track me as I run, tell me my distance, my pace, if I'm going too slow (and will put in a fast song to pump me up). And when I say "tell" I literally mean that a voice will come over my music and tell me. How cool is that?!? I just hope that I like the voice. Thank you Debbie!!!!

You go, girl. That's awesome! Here's another stupid question: when doing/planning a long run, how do you plan the days on either side? Rest before? Rest after? Easy days both? Etc.
i totally want that ipod sensor thing. sweeeeet.
MG,
My sister Allie is currently my trainer and plans my workouts each week. She may have another answer for you (Allie, feel free to chime in!) but as far as I can tell thus far, I do an easy day before the long run and rest the day after.
L,
It certainly looks pretty nifty, I'll let you know how it pans out!
I cannot believe that in little over a month you went from running 3 minutes to running 40 minutes. It would have taken my mommy a full year to make progress like that! Rock on sister soul.
