18 miles.
It's a Really Long Way.
6:45 am found me on the road again, starting my last long run before my marathon in two weeks. I felt pretty good for the majority of the run, even found myself smiling at points and even chewing my tongue one time (if you know me, you know that I must have been pretty relaxed to perform that little quirk!) I made myself go ridiculously slow at the beginning as I think going out too fast the last couple of weeks had made my runs more difficult midway through. I felt good until mile 16 and those last 2 miles were HARD. As I told Debo, I was tired, it was hot and I LIVE IN TEXAS. There is no shade and that freakin' sun shows no mercy.
I ran around Abilene for 14.2 miles and did the last 3.8 at a park that has a mile and a half loop. My sweet husband was waiting for me there and cheered me on at the end. I haven't mentioned much of him here but he has been a wonderful supporter of me in this. Planting water, bringing me extra Gu, making me breakfast after a long run, keeping Knox from pestering me ("Knox, she has run a very long time this morning. Leave her along and go find Jesus.")- all the little things that have made such a big difference on these long runs.
I'm glad I'm done with this part of the training. I've certainly learned a lot about myself and seen what I'm capable of. I'm very proud. And very tired. So, two weeks of basic running, tapering down and then onto San Francisco!

WOW! goosebumps...so proud of you and so excited for you marathon. go get 'em, tiger.
Hiya! I found your blog through the Abilene's Runners Club website. I'm so impressed with your training! I just started running for the first time this summer. I ran my first 5K race on Saturday. I'm planning to do a couple more 5K's this fall and continuing to train so I can do a 10K and then a half-marathon in 2008. Good luck on your marathon!
Thanks for your comment. I just joined the ARC (I actually mailed my form in today LOL). I've just been running by myself, but ran with a friend for the race Saturday. I'm pretty slow! I was thrilled with my 37:57 time on Saturday with it being my first race. I hope to better that though. Oh, in order to add you to my protected list, you have to be registered at Xanga. If you do that, let me know your username and I can add you. I post pics of my daughter sometimes, so that's why I have it protected. I'm also on myspace and facebook if you have those.
Okie dokie, just added you to my protected list so you should be able to view my blog now. I'm running a virtual 5K this Friday and then I'm running the ARC 5K at Redbud Park in November.
You go! That is amazing - 18 miles. Wow. Enjoy your taper and enjoy San Francisco.
